In the wake of the Oakland warehouse fire this weekend, it feels like I’m traveling in the wrong direction, as I want to be near my immediate community. I realize that there’s so much of this community all over, and it feels important to be gathering in non-traditional venues in solidarity of experimentalism everywhere. It is community, friends, support, our inspiration, our collective spirit and goals that carry us forward, together. There is a place for all of us, where our art is welcome, celebrated, and moves us together physically, emotionally, and psychically. Let’s share together, in a place that is inclusive, accepting, inviting. This will be celebrated.
I’m honored to be sharing the bill with such talented sound artists: Tara Jane O’Neil is a multi-instrumentalist, visual artist, composer, extensive collaborator and ex-Rodan bassist. Chuck Johnson will be performing a solo set of pedal steel guitar and synthesizers, and Gabie Strong reinvents the combination of strings and noise exploring spatial constructions of degeneration, drone and decay.
