Friday 10.29 Hauntology @ BAM

OK the second show in a row I am busted for posting after it happened.  Usually I’m better about these things… But here I was asked by Scott Hewicker to perform solo violin leading a procession of ghosts in the amazing Berkeley Art Museum as part of a Hauntology-inspired evening.

Following a discussion about Hauntology, Derrida, and the exhibit being shown at the museum, I led the procession from one of the galleries above down towards the audience and the main gathering space.  The BAM building is sadly going to be torn down soon, but it is a huge open mass of concrete that could have only been built in the 1970’s– the acoustics are HUGE!!  Amazingly, even though the space was full of over a hundred people, everyone hushed to silence my violin sounded strong & filled the space!  It was a magical experience for me.  I performed a sort of improvised funeral waltz inspired by one of the darwinsbitch melodies I’ve been composing with mixed with a Beethoven sonata dirge that I also had in my mind.   And at the end as I circled around the main hall area, the ghosts (the group was called Theater for Charity) danced an improvised waltz in pairs.  Very special 🙂  Followed by performances by Jim Haynes, Indignent Sinility, and Barn Owl.
